My ad is one for Scope dual-blast. It's a mouth wash that goes beyond killing bad breath germs, it also eliminates strong food odors. The design of it is a bottle of the scope that was shot through an onion and it shows the scope breaking up the onion like it's more powerful than the stench of the onion. At the top it says "the onionator" showing that it can destroy even an onion. I got this from the magazine Cosmopolitan, and because of that I feel like it's trying to attract females who can't stand to have stinky breath. I do feel that it can be targeted for anyone who strongly dislikes bad breath, but for the purpose of being in this magazine it's attracting the girls who read it. No body likes bad breath, especially after eating anything with even the smallest amount of onion, so why not use this Scope Dual-Blast to get rid of it?

Elements of an Effective Layout

This article discusses how the different elements are needed to make a layout effective. These elements are balance, proportion, unity, clarity and simplicity, and emphasis. In advertisements these days it is implied that these elements are there. If the advertisement is lacking in one area, it can easily be made up for in another. As long as the advertisement is unified, easy to look at and read and it also emphasizes the main point then it's layout to somewhat effective. An effective layout should attract readers by attention and interest. When you are flipping through a magazine loaded with advertisements, you stop on a page because you've seen something that attracts your eye. After reading about the elements of an effective layout, I can honestly say I wouldn't have asked myself all of these questions, but now I will look to see if these professionals have followed the rules of design. They all apply to my ad.

Democracy of Goods

The analytical tool being used here is to express how using everyday, ordinary products can make you feel like you are top of the rank or make you feel like you belong in a place that seems out of reach. Most products still use this kind of advertisement. All advertisers want to make their products more appealing. I haven't picked out my ad yet but I think reading this will help me choose.

Ad on TV

I always seem to let the beauty advertisements get me. I find myself going out to buy the new hottest things that the tv or magazines say are going to work best. The ads that work for me are ads like Dove commercials. It shows average sized girls and not tall skinny models and helps me want to buy more of it because of this. When I see ads with tall skinny girls it doesn't make me want to buy the product because not a single product out there can make you taller or skinnier. One of the Dove's ad shows humor between a couple friends and what soaps they use. I love all of Doves advertising and I even like Dove products. I don't dislike anything about them. I have brought many Dove products since their new commercials have came on.

Why Dance is The Best Exercise

Exercise is important to several people, but there’s so many different ways to exercise. Dance is an excellent choice. It uses strength, flexibility, and endurance. It can also be a lot of fun!

My thesis- Dancing doesn’t just strengthen your entire body by giving you a great cardio work out, but it is also healthy for your mind. It’s a good way to relieve built up stress which in turn can allow your mind and creativity to flow freely..

My Style

I really do not enjoy writing essays that much, I am more of an creative writer and like to have topics and imagination. Essay writing really just doesn't come natural to me. One reminder that was said was to write in a way that comes naturally. While revising my essay, I am going to try to focus on writing my essay on what I feel comfortable with. Another reminder  was do not inject opinion, but I feel like for my persuasive essay I need to add a little of my opinion to argue about my topic.

"Letter From Birmingham"

Dr. King is addressing a form of government, who has not been too fond of his Civil Rights movement. I felt like  his tone was almost angry and it was very stern. I think his argument is well-balanced and very effective. One thing that I did like was how his letter started out addressing that he normally doesn't respond to complaints and negativity. To me, I felt like Dr. King knew he needed to address this and went for it. He was a very influential speaker, so I could use lot of his letter for good examples.

Logical Fallacies

Bandwagon appeals: It doesn't matter if I steal, everyone else is doing it.
Oversimplification: No one would drive and text if the penalty was jail time.
Rationalization: I would have been there on time if the traffic wasn't so bad.

Topic

My topic is Why dancing is the best workout one can have.

My Opinion

I have been a lifeguard for the Topeka City pools for five years. Before this past summer I had applied to be in the management because my manager from the year before had told me they were leaving and she trained me so I could take her place. My email had changed and the supervisor forgot to use my newest email so I missed the interviews. I ended up not being placed in a management spot at any of the pools. Chad, the supervisor and I have known each other for a long time because my sister played on his softball team. So I called him up and had to argue with him as to why I didn't get placed in management like I was promised. I told him that my manager trained me, which he had asked her to do so, and that I had been working for him longer than the person he actually placed there. He told me that I didn't make the interviews, and I told him that I had tried contacting him several times to check up on when they were but never heard from him. It was a long process but I ended up getting a smaller management spot and things worked out.

Muddiest Point

I felt like his assignment was pretty straight forward and I didn't feel like any of the guidelines were unclear. The hardest part for me, I think, will be picking a topic.  The assignment provided good examples, but I can't seem to decide on what topic I want to go with. I think enough time has been given for me to figure it out though.
However, I think the assignment would be a little easier if we had  boundaries for us to follow while choosing our topic.
I have no questions that come to mind at this point, I know I should have a topic picked, but I have so much going on with my other classes, but I will have time this weekend to get it started and worked out.

Notaro

Notaro's essay grabbed my attention in the first sentence. The essay was right to the point from the start.
The characters that were depicted seemed real. They resembled my parents who would do anything for their familes.
The sentence variety was easy to read and easy to follow. It was also easy to relate to, which I really enjoyed.
The essay was intense, yet had a soft side. I think the conclusion added the last bit it needed to make a good story.

White

  • The introduction did catch my attention because fishing was mine and my grandpa’s thing and I love it!
  • White remembers specific moments when he had been there before.
  • I was able to picture the lake he was at, the small of the lumber and how beautiful it was.
  • It was mainly memories, not a whole lot of dialogue.
  • Readers will connect to White easier if they have experienced fishing and all other lake activities. I connected to his essay because I grew up going to the lake with my grandpa all the time.
  • Yes, he includes a lot of memories that were very important to him.

Sedaris

  • ŸIf I wasn’t supposed to read this for class I probably wouldn’t have kept going. I just wasn’t real sure where it was going and the humor just wasn’t very specific and not related.
  • ŸHis main focus was his class in Paris, and very little about what happened outside of class. I feel it shows he didn’t know the language very well.
  • ŸI feel like there wasn’t much detail given for me to picture who they were and what they looked like. I visualized the teacher being tan, that’s about it.
  • ŸThe writer quoted a lot of speech which made each character a little more important.
  • ŸI had the feeling that he wanted to prove the teacher wrong because of the abuse she gave him, which gave him and even stronger desire to learn better. Towards the end he starts to understand everything his teacher is saying and can follow closely.
  • ŸIn my opinion the conclusion does reinforce the main point of the story.
